On June 3rd, Nielsen Media Research
announced the launch schedule of People Meter service in the New York
market. In that communication, Local People Meter service in New York was
to become the exclusive service as of September 2, 2004. A subsequent
communication announcing the launch schedule of the next four markets
stated the New York People Meter service would begin on August 26, 2004.
This would correspond with the end of the August measurement period.
However, due to client expectation in the marketplace and the recent U.S.
Senate testimony of Susan Whiting, Local People Meters will now become the
sole currency in the New York market, effective September 2, 2004, as
originally communicated. The Meter/Diary service will be discontinued and
the New York market will be running at a full sample of 800 households.
The remaining market launch dates remain the
same as previously announced.
In the Los Angeles market, Nielsen will
support dual People Meter and Meter/Diary services until August 5, 2004,
when People Meters will become the exclusive market measurement.
In the Chicago market, Nielsen will support
both the People Meter and Meter/Diary services until September 23, 2004,
when People Meters will become the exclusive market measurement.
In the San Francisco market, Nielsen will
support both the People Meter and Meter/Diary services until December 30,
2004, when People Meters become the exclusive market measurement.
Nielsen Media
Research continues to view People Meters as the gold standard for
measurement. For all markets with dual service, clients will receive
reports that reflect ratings from both samples.
